Resources for Designers and Landscape Architects

Specifying a fire feature means coordinating a finish with a gas fitter, an electrician, a pool contractor and sometimes a structural engineer. This page gathers what each manufacturer we carry actually publishes, from drawings and CAD to manuals and guide specifications, tells you where nothing is published so you can ask us instead, and sets out the details a complete specification needs so the right piece arrives on the right day.

What each manufacturer publishes

Documentation varies widely. Some brands publish per-size drawings and CAD; others publish only owner's manuals, or product pages. Where a brand publishes nothing for a need, request it through our team and we will go to the manufacturer on your behalf.

A few notes on using them. Fire by Design revises its manuals under new file paths, so link its instructions index page in your documents rather than a single PDF. American Fyre Designs publishes a separate Ventilation and Clearances notice, L-H2-001, which is worth attaching to any drawing set that includes a propane enclosure. Slick Rock's CSI guide specification dates from 2018, so check figures against the current product pages before you rely on them.

How to write a complete specification

Most ordering problems come from a detail that was obvious to the designer and never written down. A complete line item for a gas fire feature names each of the following.

1. Manufacturer, series, model and size, as the manufacturer names them.
2. Finish, by the manufacturer's exact finish name.
3. Fuel: natural gas or propane, and whether a conversion kit is required.
4. Ignition type, and the power it needs.
5. Media type and quantity, from the manufacturer's approved list.
6. Accessories: lid or burner cover, wind guard, tank enclosure, timer or emergency shut-off.
7. For water features: fire only, water only or fire and water, and the spillway or scupper option.

Finish names to use

Prism Hardscapes offers six standard finishes: Pewter, Natural, Cafe, Ebony, Ultra and Coastal. American Fyre Designs offers White Aspen, Cafe Blanco, Smoke and Black Lava, with antique finishes Dark Basalt, Light Basalt and Travertine, and French Barrel Oak or Silver Pine wood tops on its Reclaimed Wood tables. Slick Rock Concrete stains in its standard colors: Adobe, Coal Gray, Copper, Denim, Gray, Great White, Mahogany, Onyx, Rust Buff, Seafoam, Shale and Umber, and offers samples and custom colors on request. Slick Rock, American Fyre Designs and Elementi all note some variation between pieces or against color charts, so let the client see a sample or a finished piece where possible.

Fuel

Confirm the fuel before the gas design is drawn. The American Fyre Designs L.P. Select tables are propane only. Elementi bar and column models are propane only, and other Elementi models convert only with the BTU-matched Elementi kit. Prism conversions require the Prism conversion kit or orifice change by a licensed professional. Waterstone tables ship set up for propane with the natural gas orifice included.

Power and controls to coordinate

Electronic ignition is where the electrical engineer needs details early.

• Prism PH-Ignite: 120 volt, 60 Hz in and 12 volt out through a transformer rated at least 5,000 mA, with 14 or 16 gauge underground rated wire. A switch is required on the 120 volt side, such as a light switch, emergency switch, relay contact or mechanical timer. It includes a bonding lug, and Prism states it complies with NEC Article 680 and can be installed within 5 feet of pool water.
• American Fyre Designs FyreStarter: needs a 120 volt, 15 amp minimum, 60 Hz GFCI outlet; Bluetooth app control with a stated range of up to 30 feet line of sight.
• All Weather Electronic Ignition System (Fire by Design, also used by Slick Rock): available in 24 volt AC, 30 volt DC and 120 volt AC versions. The control box can sit up to 150 feet from the burner, 12 gauge wire is specified for hardwired runs, up to three units can be daisy chained, and the manuals show wiring to pool automation controllers through a relay.
• Fire by Design near pools: for any feature within 5 feet of a pool or spa, Fire by Design requires the 30 volt DC AWEIS, its certified 30 volt DC power supply mounted at least 10 feet from the pool, and a bonded gas line at each feature.

Clearances, enclosures and drainage

Do not carry one brand's clearances onto another's product. Prism manuals give 4 feet at the sides and 6 feet above. American Fyre Designs gives 3 feet from the unit edge to any construction and 6 feet above. Elementi gives 48 inches at the sides and back and sets the overhead figure by model. The AWEIS manual adds its own dimensions for built-in burners, including 6 inches from burner edge to enclosure, 36 inches to a combustible wall and 96 inches to a combustible ceiling.

Built-in and custom enclosures need drainage and ventilation designed in. The AWEIS manual states that drainage must be provided in the enclosure and calls for cross ventilation on opposite sides. American Fyre Designs publishes minimum interior sizes and vent areas for propane enclosures. Our guide to fire tables with tank storage summarizes those requirements.

Hospitality and commercial projects

Prism's 2025 Product Guide groups a Hospitality collection: Embarcadero 60, Moderno 70, Rotondo 80, Largo 72 and 96, and Tavola 110. Warranty terms in commercial use

Read warranty terms with the end use in mind, because several are written for homes. The American Fyre Designs 2026 catalog applies its warranty to single family residential use only. The Elementi policy covers non-commercial personal use only. Fire by Design covers electronic ignition for 3 years residential and 1 year commercial, and Slick Rock's AWEIS instructions give the same split. The burner warranty chart that Fire Pit Art publishes from HPC lists separate residential and commercial terms for each component. Where a brand's documents are silent on commercial use, including Prism's current warranty, confirm terms with us in writing before you order. Our warranties by brand guide lays out every term.

Lead times, ordering and the Contractor Program

Many of these pieces are made to order, and lead times vary by brand, finish and season. We do not publish a single number. The expected lead time is shown on each product page, and our team confirms it before the order ships; for a project, ask us to check it with the manufacturer before you commit. Tell us the installation window, the site contact and any delivery limits, such as a loading dock, a liftgate need or a rooftop crane pick, so the freight is planned around the job.

Common questions

Where can I find CAD files for fire features?

Slick Rock Concrete publishes per-size PDF drawings and offers CAD through its CADdetails microsite. We did not find published CAD for Prism Hardscapes, American Fyre Designs, Fire by Design, Fire Pit Art, Elementi or Waterstone. For those brands, request drawings through our team and we will ask the manufacturer. Manuals and product guides with dimensions and weights are available for most models in the meantime.

Which fire features can be installed near a pool?

It depends on the ignition system and its power supply, not only the bowl. Prism states that PH-Ignite complies with NEC Article 680 and can be installed within 5 feet of pool water. Fire by Design requires its 30 volt DC system, a certified power supply kept at least 10 feet from the pool and a bonded gas line for any feature within 5 feet. Your electrician and inspector make the final call.

Do fire feature warranties apply to commercial projects?

Not always on the same terms. American Fyre Designs limits its warranty to single family residential use, Elementi to non-commercial personal use, and Fire by Design and Slick Rock give 1 year on electronic ignition in commercial use against 3 years residential. Where a brand does not address commercial use, confirm terms with us in writing before ordering for a hospitality or multifamily project.
